Check this out. This is a great synopsis of Frederic Bastiat’s life and writings. If you are wanting to read more, I highly recommend the 2 volume set called “The Bastiat Collection,” available from the Mises Institute (mises.org). Also, the pamphlet called, “The Law,” available here is must reading to understand how the concept of property predates the concept of law and that law’s purpose, therefore, is to protect property, not to be used to rob people of their property.
The writer of the Bastiat synopsis suggests that the French should have provided a statue of Bastiat to stand next to the statue of liberty. I couldn’t agree more.
G. Keith Smith, M.D.
P.S. I recommend a Chateau Certan, 1996 Pomerol. This bordeaux would be fabulous with the Bastiat synopsis.
